Before coming to Faro we had already decided to explore a little more of the Algarve than just the capital and one of the towns on our list was Tavira. In the end we only got to visit one other town because we spent most of the time on the rooftop terrace at the hostel instead of travelling around, hehe. Relaxation is very important! We slept in today as well and then took the train to Tavira in the early afternoon. As Faro is the quietest town I have ever visited, Tavira was like a real «city» for us, haha! Here are some pictures from the trip:
The Algarve train ready to leave Faro
Praça da República, a big square, in Tavira
One of the bridges over the river Gilão
The Roman bridge, Ponte Romana
Rio Gilão or the Gilão river
People in Tavira also do these romantic things
One of the small, cute streets of Tavira
The Roman bridge seen from the other side
The Roman bridge
The name of the river, Rio Gilão
On of the streets of the hill where you can find a church and a castle
We found a beautiful garden on the top of the hill!
This strange flower is originally from Paraguay and Brazil, but now it can be found in Tavira as well, haha!
Signe is enjoying the view from the garden
The street in front of the church
The Roman bridge again, here you can see six of the seven arches
Another bridge. I love bridges.
A different view of the other bridge and the river
The street from the train station to the centre
A forgotten bench in a forgotten park
We stayed there the whole afternoon and did some grocery shopping before taking the train back to Faro. Tomorrow we are going to Lisbon to spend a couple of days there, do some sightseeing and some shopping, and maybe meet some friends from Porto as well. Should be great! Happy Easter to you all!
